Score: 2 - 1
Goal Scorer: Chris Vinecombe, Nektar Kandyliotis

On a wet afternoon, we played our 1st home game of the season and the boys were pumped up for it after a good display last weekend. Fortunately, we had Tom in goals for us and he did a good job for us. We started off strongly and created many goal scoring opportunities if not for some good goalkeeping, our forwards Kon and Nektar would have scored earlier. Chris V had a really good game on the right wing and caused all sorts of problems for the Moreland defence and it was fitting that he opened the scoring for us. Well done Chris!!

Once again our defence was solid in the 1st half and we managed to contain the Moreland forwards for most of the game. It was very encouraging to see us making lots of entries into our attacking 3rd with many attacks coming from the wings again. The midfield boys also played their hearts out with Anil coming off twice after going in for some strong challenges. Nektar managed to score 1 more for us before the break and the boys really outplayed Moreland and deserved to take the lead.

The 2nd half was a little different with a number of changes made into the side. Again we were going forward a lot but failed to add to our scoreline. What was encouraging to see was the number of times we penetrated through their defence. However, as a result we failed to provide enough cover to our defence and we conceded a goal in the 2nd half again. What was lacking in the 2nd half was the penetrating runs from the wings as we kept losing possession in the middle of the park. Our distribution starting from the back wasn’t the best and that is another area that we will be working on in training.

Considering the conditions were not fantastic, a win is still a win and we all look forward to our next game. Again, well done boys!!

Clifton D.
