Dear Dr Ziggy,

I am English. In fact that is all I wanted to say. Your thoughts?!  R.Williams, c/o Betty Ford Clinic

Robbie,  You old geezer. I can tell you it’s you by the messy writing and the white residue I found on the stamp. It's similar to the line markings on the Anfield pitch when I refereed the game between Liverpool Yuppies and Robbie Fowler’s  “Merseyside Dockers’ challenge game. The yuppies got thrashed 8 nil because they couldn’t hold a high line across Defence and the Dockers repeatedly broke the offside trap but that’s another story.  The English have contributed lots to world football and thus Monash. Alcohol and its ability to unite the masses and pay for transfers and coaches. Bar sales @ Monash have tripled since Brian arrived which in turn allows the club to pay him for coaching. Brian has not yet figured the complex relationship yet between his sporadic payments and his sporadic drinking. He is English after all. The English have also brought riots to football but there have been no riots associated with Brian or Monash in recent years due to recent VSU legislation.

The concept of voluntary student unionism has dampened university angst so much so that the recent registrations for season 2007 were so orderly that long time football fans thought the line-up was for interviews for the next canteen manager.  The English have also brought the ‘long ball’ concept to world football which has brought much derision from the rest of the world. Monash adopted the long ball concept in seasons gone past with mixed success with players confused by the fact that they used to have a midfield but was now obsolete. Also the 2 strikers they had upfront were less than 5 feet tall.   Robbie, I could go and on about how the English have contributed to football and how Monash has adopted both the best and worst of their ideals. The main point is we have some ideals and they are mostly English. The main one is we give our match day addresses in English but soon they will be online.

Something I hope to see you doing soon Robbie, on lines!  Dr Ziggy.
