Dear Dr Ziggy,
I’m sick of travelling to away games every week. I miss playing at home. I believe that my form has suffered. Do you have any strategies that might help me to think I am playing at home and hence help my form?
- S. Ballestros, Malvern East
Yes, I understand your plight. It has been a dramatic season but sport is 90 % mental and 8% physical with 4% arithmetic so it is very confusing during 2007. Home. I remember playing at home. I last played at home in Bob’s Diner in 2001 and was dropped the following week as a result of team discipline but I tried to argue that I was not offside. She was a striker as well.
I have played away since………………….. I do think of the benefits of playing at home. You get to play in front of a crowd of no more than 10 , and half of those are lost international students looking for the badminton courts so the chances of getting heckled by your own supporters is significantly diminished. There is also little protection from the wind so you can always blame that for the misdirected pass. Or your team-mate. Also if you are tired you can simply boot the ball away to get a breather as with no fences and no crowd it takes 15 seconds at least to get the ball back. David Thompson has for years been criticised for whacking the ball to touch but he has merely been following instructions to give his team mates space and time on the ball but the wind has meant David thought it was from the ball…………… So you ask for strategies to make you think you are playing at home? Eat some dodgy food and then complain about something. That’s what will make you think you are at home. Your parents are sick of your whingeing and want you to move out. Playing away will help facilitate that so you can move out when you are 28. Do you understand the stupidity of your question. You are playing at home but with a bigger crowd , better facilities and greener pitches. The sledges will be better, the food better and you might actually be able to play football. I can’t see what the issue is. You don’t have to put the nets up and you have a ready made excuse when you lose…………………………Now I get it, you have been using that already ! Why don’t you grow up? Due To FFV restructures and ground restrictions on some grounds, the FFV are considering making the league a cup format where away goals count as double. If only you could score the club might recoup its losses from Bob’s Diner. So S. Ballestros, you don’t need strategies you just need to stop whingeing!
