CAPS PDF Print E-mail

Monash University Soccer Club is introducing some changes to its membership conditions in 2010. In particular, there will be a player bond system in place, also known as Club Accreditation Points Scheme (CAPS).

Player bonds are about creating a system which encourages players to participate in the running of the club. Too much work is being done by too few and this scheme is designed to encourage all players help the club operate.

Each player at the club is required to pay a $50 bond at the start of the season (or March as part of the pre-season training costs).

After payment of the bond, the player is then allowed to sign-up for a certain number of jobs. Each job has an amount of points associated with it. Once the player has accumulated over 10 points, they are then refunded their bond.

How to earn CAPs

Players can earn CAPs by assisting with any of the following tasks:

  • Game-day management & general help
  • Canteen or BBQ duty on game-day or training night
  • Mid-season or end-of-season clean-up

Monash University Soccer Club fields 5 open-age teams in men's FFV (Football Federation Victoria) leagues and 3 open-age teams in women's FFV leagues. Our teams compete at a variety of standards, from beginner through to advanced.

The latest team list includes:

  • Men's Seniors - compete in Provisional League Div 1 South-East
  • Men's Reserves - compete in Provisional League Div 1 South-East Reserves
  • Men's Thirds - compete in Thirds League Div 1
  • Men's Colts (under-22) - compete in Thirds League Div 3 South-East
  • Men's Stallions (22 and over) - compete in Thirds League Div 4 South-East
  • Women's Seniors - compete in State League Div 2 South-East
  • Women's Reserves - compete in Metropolitan League
  • Women's Thirds - compete in Metropolitan League

The following membership types are available with the Monash Uni Soccer Club:

O-Week Membership

Price: $10 (make a payment)

Male players wishing to attend O-week trials are able to purchase an "O-Week Member Deal", available from the club stall during O-Week. This entitles you to two sessions with our coaches, who by the end of the sessions can make the recommendation of whether you should go ahead with the purchase of "Pre-season Membership" (see below) and which playing group you should join. The cost of O-week membership is deducted from any subsequent membership payment to the club in the same season.

Pre-season Membership

Price: $50 (make a payment)

Male players who haven't made the senior or the reserve squad by the start of March, are required to purchase a non-refundable Pre-season Membership in order to continue training and be eligible for selection for the Thirds, Colts or Stallions. If a player then secures a spot in one of these teams, the $50 payment is deducted from the Playing Membership fee.

1 Pre-season Membership fee ($50) is deducted from the cost of the Playing Membership.
2 Goalkeeper discount of previous seasons has been removed in order to fund the goalkeeper-specific training course in March & April

This is a bond that can be earned back by helping the club out during the season. For more information see CAPS.

Once you have secured a spot in one of our teams, you must purchase a Playing Membership which covers the costs of registration with the FFV, coaching, venue hire, referee fees, etc. Here is a more detailed look at what your membership fee contributes to:

Expense category

FFV affiliation & team entry fees
$48
FFV player registration fees
$175
FFV referees
$52
Coaching
$93
Venue hire $30
Game-day & Equipment
$26
Total

As is evident from above, the core club expenses significantly exceed the imposed membership fees. Therefore, the club also relies on sponsorship, canteen sales and event ticket sales to cover all of the costs associated with running a soccer club in an FFV competition.

Playing Membership (winter-only)

If you are joining the club after June the 1st - subject to membership places being available - you are entitled to purchase a Playing Membership at a reduced "winter-only" rate.
