Round 4 was an interesting encounter as I was didn’t know what to expect from the team, especially after last weekend’s defeat. With a strong midfield lineup of Ben M, Anil, Richard, James C, Trevor and Brett, we had a very good rotation system in place to keep the tempo up throughout the whole game.

The 1st half was tough for the boys as we struggled to finish off despite creating numerous chances and we were held scoreless the whole 45mins. Nektar and Wison were working very hard up front and constantly troubled the Elwood defence and it was a matter of time before we would hit the target.

The defence with Ben R and Tim F marshalling it, was steady and there was a lot of support from coming from Alecot and our captain for the day Garo. Tom was excellent in goals and he was quick out of the 6yard box with his distribution.

In the 2nd half, some changes were made and Tim F moved into midfield and Ben M in defence. I replaced Nektar upfront and it was a very good 2nd half. In fact, it helped that Elwood had 1 player sent off for a 2nd bookable offence and we caught them on the break.

Wison scored from a rebound after I had received a through ball from Aleco and hit the target. The keeper saved it but could only parry it off to a grateful Wison who kicked it into an empty net. It was great running and positioning by Wison and he deserved the goal.

We had many good opportunities to add to our tally but failed to because of some good work from the Elwood keeper who was very quick out of his box .Our central midfield of James C, Anil, Trevor and Ben M were solid with lots of support provided. There were many good runs from Richard (right wing) and Aleco (left wing) and the dribbling and crosses into our attacking 3rd was excellent. Our 2nd goal was again worked from our midfield and Tim F split the Elwood defence and created a shooting opportunity for myself to finish on the left side. Nektar scored our 3rd goal after some very good work from Aleco who took on the Elwood defence and create a one on one situation with a defending breathing down his neck. Instead of taking the easy option of going down in the box and getting a penalty, Aleco stood his ground and passed it off to Nekatar , who made a good run. Well done Aleco and Nektar!!

I must say it was the best performance from our boys in the 4ths so far and it was very encouraging to see players play up to the level that i believe they can. Well done again boys……. Now for a top of the table clash on Sunday.
